Bought a 2000 R11S after a string of Jap bikes.The last one was an injected 1100 Kawasaki.I love the R11S,have a local-made exhaust system which gains about 10HP whilst losing 8kgs. Goes well, but I would gladly trade 1st gear for a 7th.Do you know if it is possible to gear them up?It just feels like top gear is missing. A few more gee-gees would not go astray either.I've got the wider rear wheel,the engine spoiler,and a few personal modifications,which make the bike more suited to me.The next thing I will change is the seat-it looks good,but is the wrong angle and I'm always sliding forward onto the tank.I"d rather sit futher back.Oh well,that's it. I'll go shopping to see if I can find another diff-a taller one.Bye |

My R11S has 18K miles and I like it better every ride. Mods include Staintunes and the M.A.P.paralever arm.The suspension is quite satisfactory for now, the best that BMW has used but will go to Ohlins. I've tried BT56's, Dunlop 207's, Michelin HiSports, all good but it seems to like Metzeler MEZ3's or MEZ4's best.A friend with a similar non ABS model has used the space the ABS unit occupies under the tank to enlarge the tank to hold an additional 1.25 gals to 6 gal. Thats next for me.I've sawed out the annoying restriction in the filler neck of the tank, much better. |

Bought a red 1100S in 1999, my second BMW after my 1975 R90S - which I still have. The 1100 is very nice, but not as comfortable as the 90S on longer trips. We're looking forward to a long tour through Europe this summer - all in the name of science, of course, to more fully investigate the comfort factor. |

Very good choice in bikes my friend. I've had my yellow R1100S since February of 1999, and have enjoyed every minute of it. Modifications include Two Brothers Exhaust, Tinted Windscreen, Chromed Wheels, License plate relocation, and underside lighting. I have 12,000 miles on right now and have no problems whatsoever. Easiest bike I have ever had the opportunity to wheelie. So much torque, no clutch is needed to get the front tire airborn. If you haven't experienced this yet, you need to try. Pull the RPMs up to 6,000 grand in first gear, back all the way off the throttle until they fall to 5200, then snap it back open and hang on. |
